Matte compositions: “Wreck-It Ralph in 60 Seconds”

My contributions to an upcoming project for the 60-Second Film competition. For these, I owe the director and 3D artist Kial Natale for providing several excellent renders and plates to work with. This was my first experience in creating mattes for films. A fun and colourful challenge!

Kial has just released a behind-the-scenes special on the project so you can see the incredible work that he and the team did. (I get a shout-out as well!) Check it out!

Branding: Gun Street Girl

Branding: Gun Street Girl

Full on branding package (logo / logotype, business card, custom WordPress site) for the business of a talented lady, Jeanine Chau, who I’m proud to call a friend. Her operation is named for the Tom Waits song, so of course I had to include all kinds of Waitsian themes — burlesque girls, gambling, smoking, and of course guns. In true Waits spirit, I’m trying to capture the ferocious fun of an old-timey cabaret, suitable for an artist who does a lot of make-up for alternative events and noirish photo shoots.

I roped in my frequent collaborator Molly to provide the femme fatale illustration that I based the card design around. As always, she knocked it out of the park.

New Image College branding

New Image College branding

A cross-section of content I created for New Image College. The College lacked a distinct visual identity before my arrival, and I made it my goal to create one at every level of presentation, both internally and externally. This grew to encompass a full visual identity that I maintained across web, print and social media graphics, including a full-scale customized WordPress site whose content I mostly generated myself as a copywriter.

The bold neon flavour and '80s-influenced aesthetic was (and remains) unique for this sort of school, appealing to New Image's target demographic of teenaged girls and young women who are interested in beauty, glamour make-up and the film industry. These materials received rave reviews from students and prospective customers.
